Description: 

Libyan Desert Glass was formed when a meteorite impacted this corner of the Sahara a long time ago. The shock and the heat from the impact turned the sand into lumps of glass. The meteorite has never been found, and might still be hiding under the sand, but the dark streaks found in some pieces of glass might be dust from the meteorite.

An unusual way to look at this rare form of glass: an end-piece with one smooth, polished side and a natural side. Lots of  inclusions of crystobalites, large and small.  Pale yellow in color.  

About 6.5cm long, 5.5cm at the widest and 1.5cm at the thickest.

 

Please note: The area of south-west Egypt where Libyan Glass can be found, has now been closed to any exploration by the Egyptian government for the last 4 years, with no change of policy in sight, so our stock cannot be replenish, and is slowly dwindling.
