Description:

Probably the most well-known of all iron meteorites, since tons of it have been found in Namibia. It also has the best Widmanstatten pattern and is resistant to rust. In other words: the perfect meteorite.

Officially classified as a fine octahedrite.

But this piece is different. the Widmanstatten pattern, usually so clear, so symetrical, so perfect, is bent, stretched, completely deformed. It shows what happens inside the meteorite when it explodes before impact. The metal was stretched, bent just like taffy.   And the deformed Widmanstatten pattern reflects the violence of the explosion too.

Pretty slice with a story to tell!

About 127mm x 98mm at the widest.
